NEWSLETTER, AUGUST 2006
Dear Member,
We are on the threshold of another season with expectations already
running high.
After eight pre-season friendlies with mixed results, it is to be hoped
that the team has not overdone things, given that we have a hard task ahead,
stretching to the end of April. Talk of being favourites to land the MFA
title is premature. Every point will have to be fought for and nothing can
be taken for granted.
Membership for 2006/07
At the time of writing, we have 41 paying members for the season. Whilst
this is down on last year, everyone is now a Full Member and our average fee
level is up. All the usual benefits are available, including a discount on
merchandise at the club shop which we now run through Nigel Murray and
Sylvia Taylor.
However, because the new blue shirts are already being sold at a very
competitive price, the normal 10% discount to Vice Presidents is not
available on this one item.
Presentation Evening
As you know, this is run and sponsored by Adrian Barton and myself. Next
year, it will become an official Vice Presidents event and admission will be
by ticket only with VPs having first call. A two-course meal will be
provided by Bertie Brakes and the awards will (hopefully) be presented by
Matthew Taylor of Portsmouth FC who married my niece Hannah earlier this
year. Provided that we can agree a date to fit his commitments, he has
agreed to join us.
Don Hartwell Award 2007
As you know, the Committee gave the 2006 award, which is made in memory
of our good friend Don, to Jason Cadden.
Any Vice President is welcome to nominate somebody who, like Don, has
given exceptional service to Leamington FC either on or off the field.
Please do let me have your thoughts.
Enjoy the new season and let’s hope for a successful one. Don’t forget to
visit our website on www.lfcvp.tk.
