December 2005

When we all gathered at the New Windmill Ground back in August for the start of the new season, it would have been a brave soul who would have predicted the events that have subsequently unfolded.

The FA Cup run came to a shuddering halt at Colchester, but the publicity that it brought the Club both nationally and regionally was priceless. We are still in the FA Vase, having reached the fourth round, and, if we can make some headway in our league programme, could still be in the shake-up for the Step 4 re-organisation that will come next season.

Membership of the Vice Presidents Club has topped 60 for the season, our best so far. The discount for early joining certainly brought the money in and we were able to make a donation of £5,000 to Mick Brady before the start of the season to help with the finishing of the magnificent clubhouse. Also, we had some money left over from last season's fund-raising for the youth team and gave £500 to buy a new kit.

There have been a few news items which you may have missed, namely:

  • We are now running the club shop and Nigel and Sylvia have introduced many new lines. Members get a 10% discount on general merchandise, including the high-quality 2006 calendar. In addition, we still have our own exclusive items.

  • Simon Hutchinson in LA has created a dedicated website for us (www.lfcvp.tk) which can be accessed directly or through the link from Leamington FC's official site.

  • We were unable to hold our dinner at the Windmill Inn this year and will now present the Don Hartwell Award at Leamington FC's Annual Dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Warwick on Friday 12th May 2006. Tickets are £45 which can be paid in instalments.

  • Work is nearly complete on the old VP lounge and we hope to return there shortly.
Just a reminder that we still have a few numbers available on the Saturday Bonusball competition, but considerably more on the midweek one. There is a direct debit facility so you don’t have to pay the whole £52 for a year at once. Kevin Watson has the details.

My thanks go to the VP Committee for their help and support in 2005. We wish everyone a Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year
