January 2006

NEWS FROM THE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 16 JANUARY 2006

1. Membership for 2005/06
This was a record number of 61 members producing fees of £7,000. The early discount offer for joining by 31 May had certainly helped.

However, the number of payment categories had increased with only four people taking up the Associate level. As buying a season ticket offered an alternative at this price level, it was felt that next season the Club should revert to two classes of membership only, namely Full and Basic.

Consideration would be given to membership fees for 2006/07 in April but, assuming that the team was still at step 5, then the full rate would probably stay at £150. An early renewal discount of 10% (£15) could be offered.

2. Fundraising
Kevin Watson offered to promote an end-of-season raffle for which the top prizes were a week’s stay for two people at two holiday properties. Tickets would go on sale at the beginning of February with the draw at the last home match on April 29th.

Kevin also offered to run a competition based on the World Cup requiring people to forecast results, goals scored and bookings. Subject to confirming that this would not conflict with anything that the Supporters Club may be doing, the competition would go ahead for an entry fee of £5.

3. Merchandise
Previously, the Committee had agreed in principle to sharing the running of the club shop with the Supporters Club. Subsequently, an approach had been received from Jim Scott on behalf of the Board of Directors to take on sole responsibility and Nigel Murray and Sylvia Taylor took over on 8th October 2005.

It had been necessary to re-stock, meaning that sales took a little while to take off, but income had now totalled £6,122. Successful lines included scarves (292 sold) and rosettes (80 sold). It was anticipated that the shop would move into profit as the existing stock was sold, although it would be necessary to replenish the popular lines.

Sales of the calendars had been disappointing and it would be necessary to review this line for 2007.
